Tape stickers

Sometimes called “decals” they are stickers that have a backing and a fronting that you peel off in the application process. Originally “decals” were stickers where you had to soak them in water to get them to slide off the backing. However, in more recent times the name has been “adopted” to mean tape stickers.

Vinyl comes in large rolls that are fed through a plotter (cutter). Once the design is cut into the vinyl, the excess vinyl on the sheet is removed in a process called weeding. Finally, a paper pre-mask is applied to the top of the vinyl design to allow easy application. The image peels off with the tape (pre-mask) and you then transfer the image to whatever you are applying it too, peel off the tape and the image is left behind

Decals are great for small production runs and they are usually just 1 colour. If they are multi coloured then they have to be printed BEFORE going through the process of cutting and weeding.

Cutting, weeding, printing colours and applying tape are all time consuming so the prices for this type of sticker are much more than a normal printed sticker. Also the more intricate the design the longer it will take to weed.

There is also not a great deal of difference in the unit price between quantities as the time to produce each sticker remains constant.

Usage of this type of sticker grew from those who only needed a few stickers and were happy to pay many dollars per sticker because the total cash outlay was not that great. As they increased in popularity the public came to understood that this type of sticker is much more costly and they are perceived as a very high quality product.

To give an accurate quotation we need to know the size and colours and we need to sight the design. If the sticker is a 1 colour we cut it out of the vinyl so you can get a range of colours within your quantity (eg, White, Black, Red, Blue).
